LAFC brought an end to Seattle Sounders' five-game unbeaten streak with a decisive 3-0 victory. Goals from Denis Bouanga and Mateusz Bogusz highlighted LAFC's effective game plan to stifle the Sounders' attack and hit them on the break, as they managed to keep the Sounders at bay throughout the match.
The Sounders dominated possession early on, but it was LAFC who struck first. In the 12th minute, a handball by Nouhou in the box, confirmed by VAR, led to a penalty. Denis Bouanga stepped up confidently to convert, giving LAFC an early lead.
Despite their possession, the Sounders struggled in the attacking half, failing to register a single shot on goal in the first 45 minutes. Designated Player signing De La Vega, who started the game, was largely ineffective, continuing his struggle to integrate into the team due to ongoing injury issues.
LAFC doubled their advantage through Mateusz Bogusz. After a set piece clearance fell to him at the edge of the penalty box, Bogusz unleashed a right-footed volley that flew past Stefan Frei, ending the goalkeeper's shutout streak.
In an attempt to inject some urgency into their attack, the Sounders brought on Raul Ruidiaz and Paul Rothrock in the second half. Ruidiaz managed the Sounders' first shot on target with a long-range effort, which was easily saved by LAFC's Hugo Lloris.
LAFC's organized defense and effective counter-attacks continued to frustrate the Sounders. Bouanga sealed the victory with his second goal, receiving a defense-splitting pass from Kei Kamara and finishing past Frei to make it 3-0.
The Sounders did create some late chances, but they were unable to find the back of the net. Palencia made a crucial goal-line clearance, and Lloris pulled off two excellent saves to deny the Sounders a consolation goal.
LAFC's disciplined performance and clinical finishing were the keys to their success, highlighted by their ability to capitalize on opportunities and maintain defensive solidity. In contrast, the Sounders' lack of fluidity in attack and inability to penetrate LAFC's compact defense were evident. The Sounders will have a break from MLS play until late August. They welcome Minnesota to Lumen Field in the Leagues Cup on July 26.
