In a thrilling showdown at TQL Stadium, FC Cincinnati orchestrated a remarkable comeback to defeat New York City FC 4-2, clinching the top spot in Leagues Cup Group East 1. Trailing 2-0 after 61 minutes, Cincinnati erupted with four goals in the final 11 minutes, all from substitutes, to secure their historic victory.
The match began with NYCFC taking control, with Santiago Rodríguez opening the scoring in the 26th minute, followed by Jovan Mijatović doubling the lead in the 61st. Cincinnati struggled to find their footing early on, but everything changed when Pavel Bucha scored in the 79th minute, igniting a flurry of goals. Yamil Asad equalized just three minutes later, followed by Yuya Kubo in the 86th, and Sergio Santos sealed the victory in the 89th minute.
This victory marks the first time in FC Cincinnati's history that they have come back to win from a two-goal deficit. The fact that all four goals came from different substitutes is a first in Leagues Cup history and an impressive feat in Major League Soccer (MLS) as well.
With this win, FC Cincinnati will host Mexican club Santos Laguna on August 9th at TQL Stadium in the Leagues Cup Round of 32. Tickets for the match will be available starting Tuesday, August 6th, with a priority window for season ticket holders and reserve members before opening to the general public.
