FC Cincinnati has strengthened their defense by signing Zimbabwean center back Teenage Hadebe through the 2025 season, with an option for 2026, the club announced on Tuesday. In exchange for Hadebe’s Right of First Refusal, FC Cincinnati traded their natural first-round pick in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft and a conditional $50,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) to LA Galaxy.
Hadebe joins FC Cincinnati as a free agent after his contract with Turkish Süper Lig side Konyaspor expired. Although the MLS Secondary Transfer Window closed on August 14, free agents like Hadebe can still be signed until the Roster Freeze Date on September 13.
"We'd like to welcome Teenage and his family to Cincinnati," said Chris Albright, FC Cincinnati’s general manager. "His MLS and international experience, along with his defensive quality, will make him a valuable addition to our team. We are excited to have him join the club."
The 28-year-old center back brings significant experience to FC Cincinnati, having previously played for Houston Dynamo FC, where he registered three goals and one assist in 51 matches from 2021 to 2023. Internationally, Hadebe has scored twice in 31 appearances for Zimbabwe.
Hadebe’s arrival marks FC Cincinnati's second center-back acquisition this summer, following the signing of Nigerian international Chidozie Awaziem. These signings were crucial for the team after season-ending injuries to key defenders Matt Miazga and Nick Hagglund. Hadebe and Awaziem will help solidify Cincinnati’s backline alongside Miles Robinson and Ian Murphy.
FC Cincinnati currently sits second in the Eastern Conference and is on track for a home-field advantage in the Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs. The team, led by head coach Pat Noonan, also claimed the 2023 Supporters’ Shield, highlighting their strong performance this season.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the move, Hadebe said, "I'm so happy to join FC Cincinnati. I’m excited to join up with the team and meet the fans at TQL Stadium soon. I look forward to giving my all to fight for this club as we look to achieve our goals this season."
Hadebe’s signing is expected to bolster Cincinnati's defense as they aim for success in the upcoming playoffs.
