FC Dallas has ushered in a new era by naming Eric Quill as its ninth full-time head coach. This announcement marks a homecoming for Quill, a seasoned leader who previously made a significant impact within the organization by guiding North Texas SC to historic success. His track record, built on player development and championship triumphs, sets the stage for an exciting 2025 season.
Quill's roots with FC Dallas run deep. From 2019 to 2021, he served as the head coach of North Texas SC, leading the team to the inaugural USL League One Championship in 2019. That campaign not only secured a title but also earned Quill the USL League One Coach of the Year honor. His influence during this period was instrumental in shaping the careers of FC Dallas Academy products like Ricardo Pepi, Bryan Reynolds, and Tanner Tessmann, all of whom are now U.S. Men’s National Team standouts.
“I’m extremely excited and truly honored to lead FC Dallas into the 2025 season and beyond,” said Quill. “This club has a rich history, values player development, and prioritizes competitive excellence. I can’t wait to get started.”
Quill’s coaching journey has been marked by success at every level. After leaving North Texas SC in 2021, he took his talents to Columbus Crew as an assistant coach and later joined New Mexico United in the USL Championship. His tenure with New Mexico was nothing short of remarkable, leading the team to the USL Championship Western Conference Semifinals and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinals in 2024, along with a victory over MLS club Real Salt Lake. Quill’s impact has been undeniable, earning respect for his tactical acumen and commitment to player development.
“Eric’s coaching philosophy aligns perfectly with our values,” said André Zanotta, FC Dallas Chief Soccer Officer. “His ability to maximize player potential and innovate on the pitch makes him the ideal leader for our next chapter.”
Quill’s approach emphasizes nurturing talent and fostering growth. Whether at the professional, collegiate, or national team level, he’s demonstrated a knack for identifying and developing future stars. His championship win with Texans SC in 2017, coupled with his time with the U.S. U-15 and U-19 national teams, underscores his ability to deliver results while prioritizing individual growth.
“Eric is a championship-caliber coach with deep knowledge of the game,” said FC Dallas Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt. “His dedication to player development and competitive excellence makes him a perfect fit to lead FC Dallas.”
Before stepping into coaching, Quill enjoyed a successful playing career in Major League Soccer (MLS). A Clemson University standout, he joined MLS in 1997 through the Project-40 program. Quill played for several teams, including the Tampa Bay Mutiny, Kansas City Wizards, Dallas Burn, and New York MetroStars, amassing 16 goals and 29 assists across a nine-year career. His experience as a player at both the club and international levels adds depth to his coaching expertise.
FC Dallas will officially introduce Quill at a press conference on December 5, 2024, as excitement builds for the upcoming season. Preseason training kicks off on January 11, 2025, with the MLS regular season set to begin in late February. With Quill at the helm, the team aims to uphold its tradition of player development and competitive excellence while vying for MLS glory.
