In a surprising turn of events, former NFL head coach Jack Del Rio has stepped down from his role as Special Advisor to the Head Coach at the University of Wisconsin. The decision comes just days after Del Rio’s arrest for driving while intoxicated, a charge that has cast a shadow over his recent transition from professional to collegiate football.
Del Rio, a seasoned NFL coach known for his tenures with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2003–2011) and the Oakland Raiders (2015–2017), joined Wisconsin's coaching staff under Luke Fickell to lend his extensive experience to the program. According to Madison police reports, Del Rio was involved in an incident early Friday morning when the car he was driving hit a street sign and broke through a fence. Authorities noted that he "showed signs of impairment" at the scene. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
