In a game that will be remembered as one of the most dramatic in MLS NEXT Pro history, North Texas SC overcame a 2-0 halftime deficit to defeat Philadelphia Union II, 3-2, at Toyota Stadium on Saturday night, securing their first-ever MLS NEXT Pro Cup. The Western Conference champions rallied with three second-half goals, putting an emphatic end to a historic campaign that saw them dominate the league with flair, resilience, and an unbeaten home record.
The comeback began in the 51st minute with a perfectly executed free kick from Logan Farrington, his second goal of the postseason. Momentum continued to build in the 67th minute when Enes Sali equalized, netting his first playoff goal with an assist from standout Herbert Endeley. The game’s defining moment came in the 91st minute, as midfielder Pedrinho delivered a dramatic game-winner from assists by Tomas Pondeca and Endeley, sending the home crowd of 7,692 fans into a frenzy.
Pedrinho, a linchpin for North Texas throughout the season, capped off an incredible campaign with 26 goal contributions (13 goals, 13 assists), a club record. Meanwhile, Endeley’s two assists earned him MLS NEXT Pro Cup MVP honors, underscoring his pivotal role in both the final and the team’s dominant season. Reflecting on the victory, the 23-year-old wingback shared, “This is what we’ve been working for the whole year. It’s humbling to win MVP, but this is about the team.”
Captain Nico Gordon also spoke about the team’s mentality during the comeback: “We knew what was on the line. We weren’t going to let them win on our home ground. It’s about protecting what’s sacred to us—our house.”
The victory solidifies North Texas SC’s legacy as the first club in league history to remain unbeaten at home across the regular season and playoffs, boasting a combined 13-0-5 record. Their ability to blend player development with competitive excellence was a key factor in their success, a testament to the leadership of head coach Michel Garbini. Garbini, who took over midseason, described the victory as a career highlight. “There are a lot of good moments in this club, but tonight was special. It’s hard to put into words.”
Even former head coach John Gall, who set the foundation for the team’s success before his promotion to FC Dallas' first-team staff, praised the squad’s achievement. “We started this season with one mission: to develop and to win. They’ve done both brilliantly. I’m incredibly proud.”
Philadelphia Union II made a valiant effort in the first half, with early goals from Markus Anderson and Edward Davis putting them in control. However, the defensive adjustments and attacking determination of North Texas proved too much to overcome.
This victory not only secured the MLS NEXT Pro Cup but also underscored the team's ability to deliver in high-stakes moments, thrilling fans and setting new standards for excellence in the league. As the confetti fell and the celebrations began, it was clear that North Texas SC had etched their name into the history books, and the cup was staying deep in the heart of Texas.
