For the first time since late April, Angel City FC won at home. The effort was led by veteran forward Sydney Leroux, as well as teenagers Kennedy Fuller, Alyssa Thompson, and Gisele Thompson.
The game started off hot for Angel City, who have been struggling most of the season, with two goals in the first half. Kennedy Fuller scored her first goal of her professional career, putting ACFC up 1-0 only 17 minutes into the game. “That ball was perfectly placed, and then I don't really remember anything after—just lots of hugs and celebrations,” Fuller shared about her first career goal.
The second goal came 32 minutes into the match when Rocky Rodriguez scored her first goal as a member of the club. Racing Louisville got on the board less than 10 minutes later when Taylor Flint scored on a penalty kick. “Yeah, I'm super excited,” Flint said about the goal.
“It was not only my first Racing goal, but it was my first penalty kick as a pro, so I was really happy about that one.”
Louisville’s equalizing goal came during the 64th minute when Carson Pickett sent a shot to the back of the net. Angel City goalkeeper DiDi Haračić worked hard for the rest of the match, blocking and stopping shots from the Louisville frontline.
The match seemed to come to a standstill until the 85th minute when Alyssa Thompson sent a ball through the Louisville defense to Sydney Leroux. “It’s poetic. Juneteenth. I got the game winner,” Leroux remarked after the match. “It’s amazing, I’m so happy to be here and still help my team in any way that I can.”
Both teams are on the road for their next match this weekend. Angel City is heading up north to take on the new California team, Bay FC. Racing Louisville is going further north to take on Seattle Reign FC for the first time this season.
