The legendary forward scored twice, securing the top spot in MLS scoring charts, and contributed an assist in Inter Miami’s 4-1 triumph against the New England Revolution.
Messi’s magnetic presence helped set a new attendance record for the Revolution with 65,612 fans gathering at Gillette Stadium, marking it as the second-highest attended soccer game at the venue, owned by Robert Kraft. As the match approached its conclusion, Messi acknowledged the crowd’s roaring appreciation during a stoppage before the final whistle.
New England’s coach, Caleb Porter, expressed his admiration and slight frustration post-match, stating,
“That’s Messi for you. He manages to conjure goals seemingly out of thin air, even when you think you’ve contained him.”
Despite an early goal by New England’s Tomás Chancalay, Messi’s prowess shone through, beginning with his equalizer in the 32nd minute from close range.
Later, connecting with a pass from Sergio Busquets in the 68th minute, Messi pushed Inter Miami ahead. His second goal of the night brought his season tally to nine, nudging ahead of Chicho Arango of Real Salt Lake.
