Ohio State's formidable nine-game softball winning spree concluded on Sunday when Illinois rallied, scoring eight runs in the final two innings to secure an 11-6 victory. This loss marked the end of the home series for the Buckeyes, who now hold a season record of 29-18, and are evenly split at 10-10 in the Big Ten Conference. Meanwhile, Illinois's record stands improved at 20-28, with a Big Ten record of 6-13.
Game Breakdown
Ohio State initially led 6-3 through five innings, thanks to home runs from Kami Kortokrax, Kirsten Eppele, Kaitlyn Farley, and Taylor Heckman. However, Illinois made a significant comeback, tying the score at 6-6 in the sixth inning and then breaking ahead with five crucial runs in the seventh—all scored with two outs.

How the Runs Were Scored
Kortokrax’s two-run homer over the right field fence initially gave Ohio State a lead, marking her 12th of the season. Illinois briefly took the lead with a 3-2 score following a two-run double, but Ohio State responded with a round of homers, reclaiming and then extending their lead to 6-3. However, an error by the Buckeyes in the sixth allowed Illinois to tie the game, setting the stage for their seventh-inning rally.
