Rutgers football's recruiting momentum reached new heights during the first weekend of June, as the Scarlet Knights secured commitments from 10 Class of 2025 prospects in just three days. Among these recruits was three-star offensive lineman N-kye Wynn, highlighting a highly productive stretch for head coach Greg Schiano and his staff.
The weekend’s itinerary was packed with activities aimed at impressing the recruits and their families. The visit kicked off with a Friday night trip to New York City, where the group enjoyed an Italian dinner at Tony’s Di Napoli in Times Square, followed by an evening of exploring the city. Saturday’s events included an afternoon at Long Branch Beach, complete with a barbecue, games, and a DJ. The day concluded with dinner at Cuzin’s, a local seafood and steak restaurant known for its high-quality cuisine.
However, for many recruits, the weekend was about more than just the activities and meals. Talibi Kaba, a New Jersey native who committed to Rutgers earlier this year, expressed his primary goal for the weekend: bringing more teammates on board. His wish was granted as Rutgers landed a wave of new commitments, further solidifying the program’s standing in the 2025 recruiting class rankings.
Steven Murray, a three-star athlete who committed in April, was impressed by the sheer number of commitments and credited the coaching staff for their recruiting success. “And then it exploded,” Murray said, reflecting on the weekend’s results. Wide receiver Vernon Allen, who committed on Sunday, praised the positive interactions with current Rutgers players, which helped solidify his decision.
Kaba and offensive lineman Chris Vigna, both New Jersey natives, emphasized their strong bond with Schiano as a key factor in their commitments. Vigna’s commitment came in an impromptu moment, as he and his family were about to leave campus. The sincerity and importance the coaching staff placed on Vigna left a lasting impression, prompting him to commit on the spot.
Murray’s decision to commit earlier in the year was also driven by relationships and honest communication from the coaching staff. Coaches provided him with constructive feedback during one of his visits, helping him improve his game and further solidifying his commitment to the program.
Rutgers’ successful weekend has elevated their recruiting class to No. 11 nationally, with 18 total commitments and an average player rating of 86.85. The program’s recent success, coupled with Schiano’s proven track record, has resonated with recruits, who believe that this class has the potential to make a lasting impact.
As the summer progresses, Rutgers is set to host more prospects over the next two weekends, with four-star safety Tariq Hayer and four-star linebacker Kamar Archie among the anticipated visitors. Schiano’s message and the program’s upward trajectory continue to attract top talent, setting the stage for what could be one of the most successful recruiting classes in Rutgers history.
“This is going to be the best recruiting class Rutgers has ever seen,” Kaba declared. The excitement and confidence among the recruits signal a bright future for the Scarlet Knights as they work toward their goal of becoming a dominant force in college football.
