The Seattle Reign narrowly missed out on securing a point, falling 3-2 to Orlando Pride at home. Despite a strong start and a determined comeback, the Reign couldn't avoid defeat, compounded by going down to ten players following Bethany Balcer's late red card.
The Reign began the match with intensity, registering two shots within the first three minutes. However, Orlando struck first in the ninth minute. Defender Emily Sams launched a powerful shot from outside the box, finding the right corner of the net to put the visitors ahead.
Orlando doubled their lead shortly after. Forward Adriana delivered a precise cross to the back post, where Barbra Banda headed the ball into the net, extending Orlando's advantage.
Seattle managed to respond just before halftime. Midfielder Ji So-Yun maneuvered past Orlando's defense and set up Angharad James-Turner at the top of the box. James-Turner struck the ball cleanly, sending it into the net and cutting Orlando's lead to one.
The Reign emerged from the break with renewed vigor and quickly found an equalizer. Just three minutes into the second half, veteran Jess Fishlock delivered a perfect long ball from midfield to Balcer. Balcer deftly controlled the pass, penetrated the defense, and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to level the score.
Orlando reclaimed the lead in the 58th minute. A corner kick deflected into the path of Banda at the six-yard box, and she powerfully struck the ball into the net, securing what would be the game-winning goal.
The Reign's challenge intensified in the 83rd minute when Balcer received her second yellow card for dissent, reducing Seattle to ten players. Despite this setback, the Reign continued to press, recording four more shots before the final whistle. However, their efforts were insufficient to alter the outcome.
This match highlighted both the resilience and the struggles of the Seattle Reign as they faced a formidable Orlando Pride side, leaving fans with a memorable, albeit frustrating, home game.
