Minnesota, riding a league-best winning streak, opened a three-game road trip by facing off against the Dallas Wings, a team struggling at the bottom of the standings. The Lynx began their road trip with an afternoon contest at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas, which was Dallas’ annual Camp Day game.
In a tightly contested battle, Dallas managed to pull away with a 94-88 win over Minnesota. This loss ended the Lynx’s impressive six-game winning streak, bringing their overall record to 13-4. Conversely, the Wings broke their 11-game losing streak, improving to 4-13 for the season.
Off to a Hot Start
The Lynx started the game strongly, continuing their momentum from the Commissioner’s Cup Championship. Thanks to Alanna Smith and Bridget Carleton, who combined for five 3-pointers in the first quarter, Minnesota was red-hot from deep. The team finished with a total of 11 triples, marking the eighth time this season they have hit 10 or more 3-pointers in a game. Offensively, Minnesota was in sync, pairing their shooting prowess with solid defense, leading by as much as 15 points in the first half.
Napheesa Collier led the Lynx with 29 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and two steals, almost securing a double-double by halftime. Smith contributed 15 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three blocks, while Carleton added 17 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Kayla McBride chipped in with 11 points, four assists, and two steals. Despite this strong performance, Dallas fought back, erasing Minnesota’s lead and taking control late in the game.
Dallas ended the second quarter with a 13-0 run, narrowing the gap to 55-53 by halftime. They maintained their momentum into the second half, eventually leading by six points in the fourth quarter. Former Lynx guard Odyssey Sims, in her first action of the season, played a crucial role in Dallas’s comeback, finishing as one of four Wings players in double figures.
Although the Lynx managed a 7-0 run midway through the fourth quarter, resulting in a back-and-forth battle in the final minutes, Dallas did enough to secure the narrow victory.
Miller Returns
Minnesota welcomed back Diamond Miller, who returned to the court for the first time since May 23. Upgraded from “doubtful” to “questionable” on Wednesday, Miller played limited minutes off the bench after missing 14 games due to a right knee injury. Although she did not score in her brief three-minute stint, her return adds depth to the Lynx roster.
Up Next
The Lynx continue their road trip over the weekend, facing the Chicago Sky on Sunday afternoon in the Windy City. The game will tip off at 2 PM CT from Wintrust Arena and will be available on ESPN3 and Bally Sports North Extra in Minnesota. This marks the first meeting between Minnesota and Chicago this season, with the remaining three contests scheduled for September. Last year, the Sky held a 2-1 series advantage over the Lynx.
